House by the lake
Best contribution to recreational value with the 1390e.
The Königsbruch campsite in Homburg/Saar is a special place: surrounded by forests, meadows and three idyllic swimming lakes, this family-run site has been offering pure relaxation since 1963 – without traffic noise or hustle and bustle. What was once a sand pit is now a carbon-neutral holiday resort with 421 pitches, its own restaurant with lake views, a fishing club and tennis court – and around 1,400 guests in high season. Various tiny houses, set up directly on the lake shore, have been adding to the recreational offerings for some time now.
‘Our site thrives on tranquillity and is primarily designed to offer our guests the perfect recreational experience. It quickly became clear that we needed a machine that was perfectly suited to our work,’ says Steven Enkler, third-generation operator of the campsite.
Electrically impressive – right from the first test.
Before purchasing the Weidemann 1390e, Steven Enkler and his team were able to test both versions – the classic diesel and the fully electric version – in action. Weidemann's sales partner Horst Körner GmbH provided both machines for extensive practical testing.
‘My colleague Jerome Nailing and I took a close look at both loaders and got to grips with every detail,’ explains Steven Enkler. ‘After just a short time, it was clear to us that the 1390e was the perfect solution for us. Not only because it is quiet – it can do everything we need it to do.’
Jerome Nailing already had a clear preference: his uncle runs a riding business and has also been relying on Weidemann machines for years: ‘I've always driven Weidemanns on the farm and I think the loaders are really good.’
The 1390e has become indispensable for us – it is our quiet helper for all situations.
Equipped for everything – in everyday use and in emergencies.
The 1390e is used daily on the large site. It is mainly driven by Jerome Nailing, who uses the machine for all kinds of tasks: transporting bulk materials such as gravel and soil, waste disposal, maintenance work on paths, shrubs and green areas – and sometimes also for emergency call-outs at the weekend, for example to unblock a drain.
‘The machine has superb hydraulic power,’ says Jerome Nailing. ‘I can do everything that needs to be done here on the site with it. The loader just drives through.’ It is clear that this machine plays a central role in his everyday work – it's simply his thing!
Direct communication is now also easy during work. A major advantage of the electrically powered machine is its low noise level. ‘You can communicate and coordinate quickly while working – without having to talk loudly or turn off the machine. Jerome and I can communicate quickly and easily, even when he's out and about with the machine,’ says Steven Enkler.
Sophisticated charging management.
The Weidemann 1390e is equipped with a large 28 kWh battery and two on-board chargers. Charging is mainly carried out via the vehicle's own photovoltaic system (80 kWh) when the sun is shining – supplemented by certified green electricity. With intermediate charging during breaks, the lithium-ion battery can also be partially charged at any time. Charging usually takes place every three days, and charging management is optimally organised by regular driver Jerome Nailing – he always keeps a close eye on the charge level of the 1390e.
This fits in perfectly with the company's sustainable approach.
‘We want to be CO₂-positive in the long term,’ says Steven Enkler. The purchase of the 1390e was a logical step – even though, unfortunately, there was no subsidy available. "The additional investment that an electrically powered machine ultimately represents has definitely paid off when you consider the many advantages that electric driving and working bring. At first, I called it an idealism gap, but now it's a reality with tangible benefits."
The electric mode of operation also impresses beyond the site: local politicians involved in the ‘Tiny House am Königsbruch’ project were enthusiastic about the overall ecological concept – including the 1390e, which also provided active support in setting up the houses.
The Hoftrac 1390e is used with various attachments such as pallet forks, grab buckets and shovels – a sweeper is also planned to keep the extensive network of paths clean. For Steven Enkler, one thing is certain: ‘The 1390e has become indispensable for us – it is our quiet helper for all situations.’
Many guests see the campsite as a pioneer – and appreciate the fact that it actively invests in green technologies. This creates trust and loyalty. The ecological focus with the 1390e and other measures not only convinces regular guests – it is also a clear plus point when it comes to attracting new customers.
With the 1390e, the Königsbruch campsite has not only acquired a powerful work machine, but has also made a clear statement for a sustainable future – in line with the wishes of its guests, nature and its own convictions.
